How can I change it so that the posts of a thread are in time order, 1st to most recent rather than the other way around, i'm finding it confusing.

Click on "user CP" in the upper left of any page.
Choose "edit options" in the left bar.
Then scroll down to "thread display options," and the drop down you see in this pic is how you change it.
