Plastic pieces in oil pan

Hello, new in this forum, just bought a boxster s 2001 last week and today I drained oil, and when I removed the oil pan I found these plastic pieces. Anybody knows what they could be?

Are the plastic pieces brown or green?

My guess without pics is pieces of timing chain guides (brown) or cam actuator seals (green).

Just uploaded the pics, the pieces are all brown, would they be from the IMSB?

It looks like it could be pieces from the guides in my amateur opinion. Below are some pics I stole from the web. Color seems pretty close. If you search the forum there are a few other posts with a similar color material in the oil pan and the consensus seemed to be timing chain guides. I'd search for a few of those threads, they may be able to give you more info. Or someone more knowledgeable may chime in here.


Any rattling on start up?

No. Those are from your small chain pad in the head at the variocam unit. Explore around in the forum, there are a lot of threads about this issue.

We are talking about the same thing

Considering the size of those bits, the end of those pads is near. I wouldn`t drive too far with this car. Unless they are replaced already and the sump was not cleaned afterwards.

Thank you guys, yes it looks like pieces from the guides. I don't know or believe the guides were repleaced before and no chance to verify. I'll have a look in the forum for mor information, I would like to replace them myself and skip the IMSB replacement job for later as a precaution.

Do I need to drop down the engine to replace those guides?

I own the car for a week and only noticed there is a short clack clack when I start the car and after I drive it for a while (15 min). I know the car was parked for years 2013 2018 and then had 2 owners after that and now myself. Last oil change was 1 yr ago with 10W40, I bought 0W40 mobil 1 and new filter that I'm filling in today.

will see how it starts with the new oil and search for noises at start and after few min driving to asess..

It`s doable with engine in the car but much easier on the engine out on a stand. So if you want to tackle other stuff, like clutch or RMS, or SAI, I think it`s worthwhile to pull the engine.

Thanks, yes I spoke with an ex Porsche mechanic (who owns his own garage now) and he said he pulls the engine anyway, doesn't matter if it's the main seal or IMS, and he only recommends to do the IMS or other stuff with the engine on the car if you have done it previously, not for firstimers.

The engine sound improved notoriously with the new oil, less or no clack clack at all...
