Porsche offers officially Otto Fuchs wheels (Fuchsfelge) for the 993/996/986.
I still remember when they were offered for the 993, how I contacted Otto Fuchs and together we got them with TÜV on my 986. So I kind of paved the way for the 986.

NOW Porsche offers them in high glossy black, gentled with a laser engraved PORSCHE logo (somewhere, I could not detect it on my scan). :cheers:

But there is (i hope) a tiny little detail, which I can't "unsee".
The Porsche "original" is not outlined. That alone is worth 80 bucks (taking nail sissors and cutting those away takes at LEEEEAST 1 hour...times man power cost).

My original plan for installing the handle was to remove the console and swap in the handle assembly. This process requires dying the leather on the handle assembly black and disassembling the center console. I have experience with both dying leather and removing the center console and I expect no issues with either processes.

The challenge I have is that the wood handle is missing the piece of leather trim that finishes the area between the handle and the rest of the assembly. I will need to remove that piece from my existing assembly.

Do you have any suggestions for removing this part without damage? It appears that I could pry it up with a plastic tool, but I want to confirm that.

Based on the photos of your car, it appears that you may have twisted off the old handle and simply slid the new handle on your existing assembly. I'm concerned that if I do this, the existing handle will break because it is already cracked.

I will appreciate any guidance you are able to provide.

Wow, nice! Those are really rare pieces.
As you mentioned, I only removed my old leather handle and re-installed the wooden one. And that was tricky enough, as they hardly come of and the fitment of the wooden handle was sub-par. Lots of filling was necessary.
How about contacting the seller, he might have an idea what happened to the top piece and how it came of. Btw. mine is just standard plastic, yours is leather...i guess i need to upgrade that, too (once you know, how the disassemble it) ;-)
But honestly, I could image, that it might be possible to push it back a few mm and then it can be lifted up. Just a guess, if I look at those screws.

As I remember brute (dosed) force was necesarry for the (dis/re-)assembly, as those handles slide on grooved rails (within the handle). The wooden one's were subpar, so I had to use tiny precision files to shape those for a perfect fit. Once it sits, it sits.
I could imagine taking it off again will harm the fitment and you have to use glue later on for a permanent fit.

To put it in a nutshell: Go the route with reinstalling that missing upper piece.
You might want to ask in the general segment, if someone (Woody?) could check that on some spare brake handles.

The handle has to come off first.

I think fixating the complete handle by the hole and pulling the wooden handle grip with a hankerchief or something that gives you grip will help will help to pull it off.

Maybe heating up the wooden part of the handle will also help? Not too hot. Maybe 70-80 degrees celsius.

I prepared the assembly for installation

I dyed the leather black. The dye requires application of several light coats. I allowed about an hour for each coat to dry.

Coverage by the first coat is minimal:

I also removed the leather trim from my existing handle. Although it was already black, I applied dye because it had faded from years of sun exposure. I wanted to ensure an exact match.
