Car Illustrations

I have been doing some illustrations of cars just for fun. I find it relaxing and I am reasonably pleased with the finished product. Let me know what you think.

Very very nice! I really like your illustration style. How are they produced?
The 917 is my favorite |
Thanks, I use corel draw just because I find it easier than adobe illustrator. I have used both for a long time. I start with a picture and use that as the base and then draw each line and each curve from scratch. The style comes in by choosing what to draw simply and what details to really home in on. I think I will do the Flying Lizard Le Mans #80 car next but it is going to take a long time due to the art car nature of the graphics. I figure if I can do that one I can do anything at that point.

Wow - nice job!

Very impressive, landrovered, wish I had skill like that.
Can I put in a request for one of the Porsche RS Spyder LMP2 cars? I'd be interested to see your take on that. And I hope you'll pardon me for dropping some pics that are not yours into your thread. I'll remove them if you wish, just thought I'd provide some references. EDIT: Smaller images dropped in per ladrovered's request; couldn't find smaller sizes of the same images, unfortunately, but these are good replacements, IMO. http://fastcache.gawkerassets.com/as...-RS-Spyder.jpg http://www.grandprixlegends.com/Imag...NV187537_1.jpg had to put in one more I found, thought it was cool. http://www.mikelandersonphotography....58_QkGy3-L.jpg |
I am planning to do an RS Spyder and I don't mind the pics at all. I will do the Team Cytosport Muscle Milk car from last season, I was a big fan of Klaus Graf and Lucas Luhr as well as Greg Pickett.
Work has begun on the 2010 Le Mans Flying Lizard RSR already, it is going to take me a week I bet. |
Kewl! I like that Boxster one...that is nice. Can you add a twist to the first two, put Cartman in the first one and a Smiley mouth on the second, the lights look like eyes!

Here is the Flying Lizard 2010 Le Mans entry driven by Long, Luhr and Bergmeister. I really like the art car like design of the livery but I dont ever want to draw it again. Once is enough for this design. anyway enjoy.

Wow!!! Are they for sale??
|
I will be producing giclee prints and posters in the future, I am working on paper selection right now and will be offering limited edition signed prints in the not too distant future. I can tell you that the test prints I have done here at home are 11x17 and they look really awesome at scale. The flying lizard car is going to be large at 36 x 53. It really pops in person and should be awesome.

My shading and highlights have improved a lot in the last couple of illustrations so I went back and re-did the shading on the 550 and will re-do the shading on the Boxster as well. It makes a big difference to me.

Yes even better! Now I need a 20x30 to put on the wall in my auto man cave.

RS Spyder will be finished soon...

Impressive stuff!

At first I wanted to do last years ALMS LMP1 version then I was going to do the older yellow LMP2 version and then I finally found the angle I wanted in the Muscle Milk car. I was impressed when Lucas Luhr said at Laguna Seca last year "We were running the entire race on only five cylinders but we knew we could make it because it is German". This one looks much better in person, the tiny .jpg does not really capture the detail.
|
Awesome! Keep em coming, and let us know when we can start buying signed prints. :D

1998 Porsche GT1 from 24 Hours of Le Mans, this is the car after McNish won it in the Porsche the year before.

Now that is talent!!!

The GT1 is where the 986 headlights came from. It is interesting to see the design themes, how they come about and evolve over time.

This is the Mspeed Cayman which did several 24 hour races in 2006 in Germany. The print size for this drawing is 36" tall by 72" inches wide. There is a lot of detail you cant see in this little jpg.

I received the 20x30 test print of the Flying Lizard Le Mans entry on Metallic paper and it is spectacular. I am very pleased with the quality. I will begin producing prints for sale around the first of the year. Prints will range in size from 11x17 to 36x72 depending on the specific illustration and the size that it is scaled to. I will keep you all posted as well as continue to post my latest drawings.

The new 2012 Porsche GT3 RSR featuring the new diffuser and nothing behind the rear tires. This one is a 20x30 and it amazes me how photo like it looks when reduced in scale.

Are you going to do a Carrera GT? One of my favorites!
|
Yes, I have been looking for the right photo, I am also trying to decide whether to do the Gemballa version or the stock version.
|
I've already been whining about the Carrera GT to him, Jäger.
And I vote stock, with real imitation tire smoke. :p |

Here is the 1962 Porsche 804, hanging on the wall is a picture of Huske von Hanstein driving the 804 at Nurburgring in 1981 and a picture of the man himself.

Because this is the shot I like so far http://www.porschetuningmag.com/wp-content/uploads/Gemballa-Mirage-GT.jpg |
landrovered, you have super talent!
|
I happen to know Huscke von Hanstein's nephew and I gave him a copy of the 804 print above. He has a picture of HVH in the 55 550 at the carrera panamericana, it is a great photo. He really likes the illustration. FYI...He has a pristine red 993 Cabriolet.

Here is the Mirage GT by Gemballa, I will be doing a stock Carrera GT in the future. I did this one really just to see if I could do it.
