Picture + question

Picked up my 06 boxster with 26k miles at the beginning of the month. Have noted that it had a service at 14k and oil change/new front pads/fluid change before I got it. Both these were done by an independent garage. It has never been in a porsche main dealer.
Concerned I asked the porsche dealer for advice and he recommended a porsche 4year service at £800. Only one main dealer in Northern Ireland and I dont know a good independent. The dealer said the plugs would need changed etc and as i am going to use it everyday day i want it right.
What would you suggest? I have always had my cars serviced by a main dealer and would like peace of mind!
First porsche after 17 different cars as now time for some fun! However not as well versed on their needs.

Thanks
Jim

I would certainly do an oil change which is an easy DIY. Most of the Porsche service is inspection work - checking belts, fluids, looking for leaks, etc.

My plugs were not changed until 60,000-something miles. If you want piece of mind find a good Indy and take them a list of things to check out. I probably wouldn't go to a Porsche dealer because of the higher price.

When I bought my car used with 35K miles I just went ahead and did the 60,000 mile service - plugs, air filter, fuel filter, cabin filter, oil change, transmission oil change, flushed brakes, etc. I did this like you are suggesting for peace of mind. I wasn't sure what service had been done before, but at this point I had a foundation that I was sure of that I could build from.

I don't believe there is anything magical about the Porsche dealer technicians, unless you have an electronics problem where a PST2 computer for diagnosis is needed. I did all of my own work and trust that a good independent (adept with Porsches) could change the oil and filters just as well (but cheaper) as a Porsche dealer.
