How To Piant Your Side Vents

Hi, I am thinking about removing the side vents from my 2001 S and painting them from the stock black to colour coded silver, has anyone out there tried this? If so any hints and tips?

IMO I don't like it when people spray the entire bottom part of the vents:

Just a picture to show you what it may look like. I haven't done it, but I assume all you really need to do is remove the vents, clean them, and tape over the parts you don't want painted...

It would seem very simple. Just unscrew the vent, remove it carefully, tape, sand and prep it (using denatured alcohol?) and then primer followed by light base coats and eventually clear. I like Paintscratch.com's paint. I may do this next week.

Maybe someone with more experience can chime in here.
