Hey Zack,
Here's mine with just the '99-'01 996 front bumper. It's an easy bolt on swap. I got the bumper used for $250.00 and then sold my bumper for $250.00. Of course it needed to be painted, but still, not bad.
If you're interested in the 02 and up 996 front end, a couple of guys have done it (check out Jeph's badass car), but you have to change the lights, bumper, hood, fenders, inner fenders, etc, etc. You're looking at around $11,000 if memory serves me correctly.

The hood isn't replaced. The biggest pain in the ass for me was finding the headlights because, I didn't use xenons. My halogens after 3 months of looking were $650 shipped for the pair off ebay. Just so happened that I found 1 and emailed the guy asking if he had the pair. He replied with no just the one. A couple days later he got the other one in and emailed me first. I called him and made the transaction. Lucky break for some reason the halogens are harder to find...almost impossible.
Anyway the pics...oh btw some of these pics suck, the quality is terrible. I've deambered since these pics were taken.

I knew the original hood stayed. I don't know why I wrote that.

I am getting ready to change the front end of my 2001S to a 996 and would love any information on what it took to complete the job. Any pointers? Will fenders, inner fenders, lights and nose just bolt on? Are there other modifications that are not obvious?

Thanks for the quick response. I have forwarded a copy of your parts list to my body shop. If they can get the parts they should start the modification in December.
