2.5l to 3.2l swap

Has anyone here converted their 2.5l to a 3.2l if so what are the major pitfalls in this swap

Porscheboy swapped out a 2.7L to a 3.2L. I think he picked up a slightly used 3.2 for a few grand. I know the 3.4L is expensive, but if I was going to upgrade from a 2.7L I would have to go 3.4L. The jump in performance is much bigger with the 3.4L. I don't think a 33hp jump in hp warrants the expense and time of an engine swap. 217hp to 295hp is much nicer than 217-250hp. The 2.5L to 3.2L swap makes more sense because the 2.5L has 201hp; the jump to the 3.2L 250/258hp would feel like you put a rocket booster on the back of the car.

The 2.5 has a throttle cable, the 2.7 and 3.2 have e-gas. It would be very expensive and require a new motronic unit and lots of parts to make the 3.2 work in a former 2.5 car.

That's why the 3.4 conversion is so popular - there is a non e-gas version of the 3.4 from the 1999 model year 996 that only needs a custom intake, motor mount, and updated ECU to be good to go. You can take the rest of the engine accessories over from the 2.5 to build out the engine.

Hope this info helps!!

Lots of discussion over on the Boxster racing board about 3.4L conversion - at least 2 owners are in the midst of the change right now and comparing notes
