Intake Vent Removal
I was in the the process of my weekly ritual of cleaning this today, when i decided that i wanted to remove my intakie vents so i could paint the plastic fascias. I have a 1997 and when i took a look on the web for removal instructions, all the examples are for 99's or newer.
When i tried the instructions i have found, they didn't seem to match what my car. supposedly there are three louvers and a screw, but i can't seem to make the louvers budge, or what i am guessing is the louvers, on my car. Anyone with a '97 try it yet?
Thanks.
Here are the sites i have already tried:

I am looking at the Porsche PET program and it is telling me that the 1997 986 side intake should all be the same up to 2002... Here is a link to my sites intake removal page, maybe it will tell you something you have not read elsewhere... I hope I helped! :-)

PorscheBoy,
Looking at your site I noticed that you removed the snorkle. Did this really make much of a difference in sound or performance? I just installed an S muffler on my '99 and that gave me a nice deep rumble.

Porscheboy,
Where did you get the RUF pedals? I've been looking for them ( on the internet), and have found tons of pictures of them but never a place that sells them.
Right now my car is pretty much stock. I have a few Techquipment things that came installed from the factory and the pedals seems like an easy first mod to try.
Thanks

Savinor & Automon...
The snorkle is added to our cars to soften the sound a little bit.... Most newer US cars have this added just to reduce sound... The improvement is minimal without, but it is a little more "woofy" without... It is a step that is taken also if you want to put the cone air filter conversion on your car also... I love it, but do read my website instructions, be careful, & DON'T SMOKE! :-) LOL

There was a letter sent out about two years ago to boxster owners, about how cigarettes were being sucked into the intake behind the drivers door and gettting stuck in the paper/cloth air filter and starting fires... :-) And removing the snorkel, just increases your chances since you have an open hole and not a long tube... :-)

Thanks Porscheboy i didn't know that. I always throw my cigarette butts out the window. But does the vent have enough power to suck a flying cigarette butt?

Porscheboy, you have the cone-type EVO intake now right? How do you like the thing still? Was it easy to intall or should I have the dealer install it when they intall the new exhaust? Do you think there is a small power increase? Any engine light probs or MAF hangups?
