New Clutch and Flywheel

Well, just got back from the shop last night. The clutch on my 2000 2.7L Boxster with 53K on it seemed like it has been slipping a little. I was not sure if I could wait a few thousand more miles before I replaced the clutch, but went ahead and bit the bullet.

When the clutch came out and we looked at it, it was worn down into into the rivets and there was scoring of the stock flywheel. So, good call in replacing it now. When we were in there, I decided to also install an Aasco Lightweight Flywheel I got from one of the fourm sponsors.

I was not sure about putting in the lightweight flywheel because I have read conflicting reports about their use. But, I am hear to tell you, it is sweet. No additional vibration at idle or on the road, very smooth. Going to this lightweight flywheel saves about 15 lbs of rotating mass for the engine.

It does not seem to be any more difficult to engage the clutch with this setup from a stop or through the gears. Blip the engine and it responds in a hurry. During normal driving I can also sure feel the quicker response of the car. This may not be as big of an improvement for the 3.2L engines, but my 2.7L sure likes it. I would recommend it if you are due for a clutch and have the $$$ to play with.
