Exterior Restoration/Refinish

Hi Folks,

I've got a 2001 986S in ocean blue metallic and thinking of doing an exterior restoration or refinish (whichever floats your boat.)

My father is in the automotive industry as an autobody painter and in his early years used to work on a lot of air-cooled Porsches and Ferrari of the 80s and 90s. While those days were lucrative, low sales numbers meant lower number of jobs.

He moved on to Toyota/Lexus and currently with Ford, and is looking to retire in a few years. He's offered to help me repair and repaint any of the exterior as its had its fair share of dents, dings, and rock chips over the years.

He recently finished up a 987 and is familiar with that but never a 986. Anything in particular that should be replaced when repainting the 986? I want to keep the original colour and I think the windshield trim could be replaced. Is it replaceable? Thanks in advance!
