quick stereo cable question
I did a search on the subject and found a number of threads regarding iPods and our stereos but I'm a little confused. Could someone tell me my options as far as listening to my iPod on my stereo without using an infernal FM modulator?
2002 Boxster S with Bose system and 6 disc changer.
I saw the RennTech option and that's a bit over my head.
I read about a Becker cable and that sounds good but what is that and does it enable me to see the songs and stuff on the radio display?
I found this cable but I'm not sure what it does and if it's any good:

Thanks in advance guys. I hope this subject hasn't been beaten to death yet.

ipod
Hi,
I am pretty sure the subject has already been beaten to death somewhere but I can't find the thread, so what the heck.
I can only speak from my experience:
I have a 2002 Boxster S with the CDR-220 (no Bose).
Basically what it comes down to is:
Either CD-changer or iPod you can't have both (but who needs a CD changer when he has an iPod).
You can order the Becker cable which plugs in where at the moment your CD-changer goes and connect the iPod (the Blaupunkt cable looks very similar, but no gurantees here).
Plug it in the back of the radio (make sure you have the code) lead the cable through the back and happy ipodding :-)

more answers
Hi,
I just saw that I only answered half of your question:
All these cables do it play SOUND through your speakers.
No additional info.
I know there is a solution from Harman & Kardon which does more than that, but it's a bit priecy and I can read the songs on the display of my iPod very well ;-)

Did the Blaupunkt cable work
Has anyone tried this Blaupunkt cable on the Porsche CDR-220? Did it work?

I went ahead and bought that cable I linked in my first post. It came in two days after ordering it and I got it installed with NO trouble what so ever. I know nothing when it comes to car stereos but this cable was super easy to install. I haven't wired it for power just yet, but it works great with my iPod. The sound is fantastic, I'm very pleased with the purchase.
I also went to www.proclipusa.com and bought a mount/holder combo for my iPod. It looks real slick in my Boxster. Total cost for cable and holder/mount was about $90. Quite reasonable, if you ask me, for getting to listen to my iPod through my Bose speakers.

Nope, it doesn't display any info on the head unit, but the iPod is right there in front of you so it is unnecessary to have the info on the head unit.
I'm in Denver right now (away from my Boxster ) but I'll take some pictures on Thursday when I get back.

Well, if you want to upgrade to an aftermarket cd player, thatd be a lot easier. Mine displays the artist etc... through the cd player and i can control it through that also.

How much was that? Since I have the iPod hooked up I don't need the CD player anymore. The cost of the cable and the car mount/holder was pretty reasonable and the install was super easy. Like I mentioned before I know nothing about car stereos.

My flight from DEN was delayed last night into ORD (big surprise lol) I'll try to get some pics posted tomorrow morning. It's a pretty nice set-up. I think the mount will be exactly what you are looking for with your iPod, Nick.

That's a bit more than I'd want to spend.
