Intake manifold fitment question
Will an intake manifold from a 3.2/3.4/3.6 bolt up to a 2.7? Tried googling it, and didn't really come up with conclusive results. I feel like it has the potential to be a decent and relatively inexpensive upgrade, if it could work.

2.7 and 3.2 intake are the same. 3.4 should work but is asspain to fit. Id spend money and energy on a 987 airbox instead

I already have a custom cold air intake, so that's why i'm looking at the rest of the intake system.

Not sure about the 3.4 but the 3.6 is on risers that will cause fitment problems.

What kind of fitment issues? If it's the cover on top or the edges around it, I will happily massage the area until it fits, if it's for an actual performance gain.

I believe the 3.2 and 2.7 use the same intake just like they use the same exhaust system. The 3.4 and 3.6 have different mounting holes for the intake. Youll have to drill and tap new mounting holes into your 2.7 head. The heads are cast with both.

I've seen elsewhere the 3.4 intake manifolds for under the Cayman cover.

I believe the whole engine has to be lowered even with the Cayman cover. I can see how that can be done at the rear but not so much at the front

i think it was gonolaus (sp?) that was able to fit the 3.4 intake under the 987 cover. if you do want to lower, it is just spacers between the engine mount and the chassis. note that the spacers will require longer studs (or bolts). you have about 1/2" play before the transmission mounts need to drop as well. in this case you need to switch to 993 engine mounts as there is insufficient thread on the oem units for any lowering.

In the car I've seen it was a case of whole rebuilt 996 3.4 in to a 2.5 Boxster with the Cayman cover.

Well, like I said, I'm not worried about fitment, I'll just chop the cover as needed. I'm more concerned about it bolting to the engine, and if so, what potential benefits I could expect.

Its not the cover but rather the front of the engine compartment lip that interferes.

Yeah might be worth it on a 3.2; cannot say I would certainly like to try it if I had the time. What were the results and findings for 3.2s? I would think this move would be needed for engines that are now 3.6 (up from a lower displacement) and need the proper intake runners.

I get it. My rallycross boxster uses a 2.7. I used modified exhaust manifolds from a 997 and a 3.2 ROW tune. Losing 1000lbs was the biggest advantage. I was able to smoke a tire for over 100 feet with that combo. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZRFV_rATtF8
I've since switched to a lightweight flywheel and electric water pump after that video. That was a large improvement too. Getting the rpm's up out of a corner is instant now. I'll probably switch to a 996 intake if I ever yank the motor |
