vario cam chain ramps

Hi, Replaced my chain ramps on 99 boxster base. The new ramps were completely pristine and smooth. I closed up the cam and ordered another set for the other side(figured the other side would be just as worn) When I opened the 2nd new set 1 ramp was pristine and smooth but the other looked used and badly worn like the one I was replacing. Anyone know whats going on? Why one set had 2 smooth ones upper and lower(1 o ring and 1 without) and the other set had 1 smooth one and one that appeared to be chewed up. I read a post where the new ramp was supposed to look worn. I just don't want to tear the other cam down AGAIN. HELP thanks vin
