what type of motor oil?
Hi All,, which motor oil will you use for the boxster?
I checked my service record, the dealer used 0W-50 mobil one. but I found some website recommend use 10w-30, what do you think? Please let me know. Thanks

0w-50, dont mess with what a dealer says. mobil 1 synthetic always. unless you live in a hot place that never gets cold you use 10w60 or somehting, dont quote me on that last number after the w. Its all in the forums somewhere, try searching.

There is no Mobil 1 0W-50 sold in the US.
Porsche recommends either M1 0-W-40 or if you are racing or operating in big time heat, M1 15W-50.
There is no way you would run a lighter oil in these cars unless you were in the Artic full time.
Change every 7500 miles per me!

PS- NO on the 10W-60 oil. Only Castrol makes this and it is really not suited for your Boxster.

I took Brucelee's advice when I first bought my Boxster. I change the oil at 7500 and I use the Mobil 1 Gold Cap. I live in the desert and this weight works just fine...the Stealership in Phoenix uses the same one and it reaches 120 degrees in the summer.

Man, that is hot. Sounds like our desert out here, Palm Springs etc.
Yes, in that climate, I would not run anything but a 15W-50 in that car.

I've been using mobil 1 extended life and changing once a year, right after winter. I put on less than 10k a year though.

Porsche approved oils TSB attached - for what its worth some Porsche specialists in the UK say Mobil 1 is too thin and is partly to blame for some RMS issues. Moving to 5w40 or 10w40 seems to cure recurring RMS on some cars.

With all due respect to those specialists, this is nonsense of the highets order.
Esp given that the lower number of the oil has nothing to do with real operating viscosity nor is viscosity related to RMS leaks.
The RMS leak is a design defect in the Boxster motor.

Oh, BTW, I had a 911 RMS leak using 15W-50 M1.
