Do 986 Boxster have shift cable problems?

I noticed that the 987 have a serious problem with broken shift cables on Boxster and Caymen models. To the point that a Law office has been reviewing and theres a possible suit pending. Was wondering if the 986 have same issues or does it start in 05 with 987.
Apparently the Cayman is the biggest culprit in 06 and up.Some breaking within 30k driven like a granny.

Not sure, but I have a buddy that had to replace cables on his 2006 Cayman, at 85k. Wouldn't shift.
