CANBus

I'm looking into getting the Race Capture Pro MK3 to datalog and for all the other features it has. Great stuff for the price!

Talking to Brent Picasso at Autosport Labs. Brent mentioned they will have a revised OBDII device/cable for legacy (<2008 models) in a few weeks, so right now there is no way of getting Canbus info into the RC Pro MK3 using the OBDII port. Apparently, my 2002 S was the first year the 986 had CANBus (according to 101 Projects for your Boxster), so I was thinking of tapping into the CANBus to get RPM, TPS, Temps etc... maybe even Oil Temp (from the oil level sensor)? I was planning on installing oil pressure and oil temperature sensors (and maybe coolant temp and brake pressure). That is easy, just wire to the Analog inputs. But in order to use the CANBus network to get that information, the Porsche 986 CANBus protocol needs to be documented, something Porsche doesn't release to the public...

Has anyone documented the 986 CANBus protocol?

Fascinating and very useful. Such geekish info is likely available only from someone like Loren or Ahsai on RennTech imho.
