Fender Flares?

looking for opinions here, i have a 1998 boxster that's white with black rims and i love the car to death. i've always been really into the look of the older 911's and the wide body kits and i have found fenders from 2"-4" and i was wondering if anyone had any opinions on how they would look on my car, i would complete the project with "necessary" things to finish the look like wheel spacers and lowered suspension etc. if anyone has any examples of them on a boxster i'd love to see pictures (if you think it's a bad idea/ would look bad, please include why)

air (american international racing) sells rear flares but i'd be interested to find out where you sourced front flares - difficult to find, even with the boxster sharing the front fenders with the 996. wider is better.

would you say there's a big difference between flares made exactly for the car which seem smaller than a universal set of 4 and just forming it/cutting around the vents that would be around 3.5"-4"??

There are a couple pf companies that do 996 RSR kits(Getty Design, MA Shaw??). All of those front kits will work on the 986, and I'm sure that with the right $$$ they could work something for the rear.

all of those kits require fenders, front bumper covers, sometimes headlights (ie, i think the gt racing kit is a full 996.2 conversion). i think the op wants just flares. i've not seen flares done on the rear of the 986 (the air product is close to flares) but have on the front ...

Yup, it's $5200 from the company, $750 for shipping. The fenders are made of fiberglass.

Correct, I don't want the whole kit due to costs, just flares. I was wondering about something like these (not necessarily these exactly just found a more specific example)

I would cut around the air vents as necessary but just appearance wise would these look good or like crap

If you do install them please don't leave the fasteners/rivets/connectors exposed. It looks ricey and cheap... like you couldn't finish the project... like you 3M'd them on. Don't go the ugly route. Smooth. Smooth.

I think you need to decide for yourself what look you like, everyone has a different opinion and none of them are right or wrong,
I personally like the exposed bolt look, it looks purposeful to me, I don't le the moulded in flares as I think they look too try hard but that's just me,
like I said everyone's different,
here's one I especially like, a lot of people here don't like it...

also remembering that the steel fenders need to be cut and in the case of the rear welded to the inner fender for these to look how they do in the pics, if you have flares that dont get filled by the wheels it will look naff, you will not be able to easily put the car back to stock,

Whether they look good or not is 100 percent down to how well they are installed. Porsche riveted on flairs on some of their best race cars... Check out the Jagermeister RSR’s. So, IMO if you decide to go the rivet route, do it right and paint it orange! :-)
