				Speculation over 718

The 1st gen 718S does 0-60 in under 4 seconds with 350hp from a 2.5 running 14.5psi boost. The 300hp base has a 2.0 but runs 20.5 psi... So, where does the platform go? We know 1st gen cars are a bit strangled off. When the 2.5 gets 20 psi, are we looking at 400 hp? Will the S model get to 3.0 and 20+psi? Will the 718 get to 500 or more hp?? How about under 3 second 0-60?

			Only time will tell.
The 718 will never be as quick as the 911, so that can be your guide to predicting the future.

Actually, the 718s is already just as fast as the Carrera. From Porsche's quoted numbers themselves, 0-60 in both Manual and PDK are exactly the same between the two cars: 4.4 sec for Manual; 4.2 sec for PDK (4.0 with sport chrono).

yeah, time will tell. Long term...cars will be electric.
Porsche should jump right now on that wagon...and make an electric Boxster.
There is literally no review out there, commenting how great the new 718 engine sounds. Emotions coming from that are decreased or frankly speaking are "gone".
The 718 should be equipped with an e-motor NOW...making it even faster.

I have thought a lot about whet I would do if my engine suddenly blew. Converting it to an electric would be a fantastic project. The engine compartment could hold the batteries. Not a simple project, and probably as expensive and complicated as a replacement engine, but the result would be fantastic.

It's been done: Electric Boxster Conversion
Not sure I'd be interested in a completely silent Porsche though. I like the music the flat 6 makes.

I don't see how a tiny 6 fits in a 986 but not a 718. Give us some motors on each wheel to do electric hybrid drive and you have a baby 918.
I guess that is more expensive and heavy then turbos though.

However honestly I think we should all vote in the ballot box for our favorite cars; for governing bodies that will not place blanket regulations on ford and spyker at the same time. Reduce co2 but don't make all firms in the market have the same requirement or else we will not find efficient production. Rather there should be tradable allowances, a carbon tax (in leu of a sizable portion of the income tax.) anything that puts choice in the market to decide what is best while still reducing co2 emissions.

I'd rather have an electric boxster than a 718.
I drove a few, and that engine might sound good from outside, but it's crap inside, and it vibrates so much too... Not worth it, I'd rather have a bit less power and keep a vibration free flat 6 or electric motor.

The chassis is wonderful though, GT4 level of handling! And they're gorgeous... but the engine ruins it.

They did such a good job on the 991.2 with turboeing the flat 6!

Good news is that a 6 cylinder 982 will come!
 ... at a price.
