hi,

I have a 97' boxster that must of the time it will start but sometime won't start right away. it takes anywhere from 3 to 5 min. of turning key back and forth or pulling key in and out before finally starts. Has anyone else have this issue?

1. Car Battery checked out fine
2. Turning the key , the car makes absolutely no noise through this process, but
the dashboard light-up and self check.
3- Sometime I have lock the car and open the car with key and hear the central
locking been activated to able to start the car.

any help would be greatly appreciated.....

The car won't start immediately

Hi,

You most probably have an Ignition Switch going bad. The Electrical part of the Ignition Lock. The actual Switch is attached on the rear of the Ignition Lock. This part is notorious for failure.

With directions and a small screwdriver, you can change this yourself. You need to disassemble the Air Duct and access is limited, many people also remove the Driver Seat to gain better access.

Porsche no longer sells this part separately from what I've been told, but Audis and some others use the exact same part. The OEM Manufacturer of this Switch is Meyle Products. The Porsche PN # is:4A0.905.849.B while the generic cross-referenced part from Meyle Products is PN# 100 905 0000. An Audi Dealer or German Parts Supplier can probably get you this part as well.

You can usually find these on eBay for around $16-$20, the Porsche part, if you can find it, will certainly be more expensive. A Dealer will not replace this part alone and will want several hundred $$ for a whole new Ignition Lock. Hope this helps...

Hi,

Here is a link to the Meyle USA website: http://www.meyleusa.com/index.htm In it, they list the retail outlets for their parts, just click on the Retail Link. I noticed several in the Bay Area which may be of help to you...

Thanks for the information.
My local VW/AUDI did not have the switch. It have to be special order. I checked the link in meyleusa.com and found a local retailer in the bay area. It costs $34 plus tax. I looks to be not a very difficult job to change this switch. I will doing the work this afternoon.

Thanks
Franz
