Hi,

You most probably have an Ignition Switch going bad. The Electrical part of the Ignition Lock. The actual Switch is attached on the rear of the Ignition Lock. This part is notorious for failure.

With directions and a small screwdriver, you can change this yourself. You need to disassemble the Air Duct and access is limited, many people also remove the Driver Seat to gain better access.

Porsche no longer sells this part separately from what I've been told, but Audis and some others use the exact same part. The OEM Manufacturer of this Switch is Meyle Products. The Porsche PN # is:4A0.905.849.B while the generic cross-referenced part from Meyle Products is PN# 100 905 0000. An Audi Dealer or German Parts Supplier can probably get you this part as well.

You can usually find these on eBay for around $16-$20, the Porsche part, if you can find it, will certainly be more expensive. A Dealer will not replace this part alone and will want several hundred $$ for a whole new Ignition Lock. Hope this helps...

Happy Motoring!... Jim'99
