Tech inspection results
I had a tech inspection done this morning for a DE to be run in August.
I did it early as I did not want any surprises and Purchased the car in March 2014. 60200 miles on the clock. Please advise especially on the cv boot remark. Service wrote. Right inner cv boot clamp loosing slinging grease cleaned Up grease. Tires all 7/32. Brakes front 10- b. rear 8-b. Passed inspection. Service manager said don't repair boot until it breaks. Or Wait until early next year. Comments please. Should or can I just have the boot replaced And save the joint? Is 7/32 ok for the tires Comment on the brakes. I would have thought the fronts would wear Out faster than the rears. This is a daily driver car 1,000 miles a month per month. Thank you, Jinx |
7/32's on your tires is fine. Most new tires are 9/32's.
Maybe the boot needs a new clamp or zip-tie. Cheaper to replace a boot than a joint. Want to keep the dirt out of the joint. Front brakes might have more beef on them, because they are newer???? Was your brake fluid flushed at the inspection? Must be done, if not. |
New Nitto NT01 Dot 100 have 6/32" new I just replaced a set after 18 on track days with new Hankook Ventus Z214 Dot 40 R tires have 4/32" Your tire are not an issue.
I agree with flavor 987 if the clamp is just loose. If it's torn I'd replace the boot Asap. New CV bearings are about $200, boots and clamps are as low as $20 |
Nothing noted about the brake fluid. I checked
And the color is very clear. It is in fact hard to Tell it's level. Nothing noted on previous service Records about fluid flushes behind done. I just ordered from Pelican Parts a boot, Inner and outer clamps and grease for $18.75. I'll have my local import guy Install it. Since I am not following the Dealer's advice by not waiting for the Joint to fail. Thanks to all. Jinx Stupid question why would the dealer tell me To wait? Of course my FORMER local guy wanted to Know why I was replacing my headlamps from Stock to Sylvania Silverstar ZXE's . I no longer Use him for my service. Plus, "slinging grease and DE" are never a good combo.:)
You need a brake fluid flush. Our local PCA rules require this prior to a high speed event. Most do. Be safe. |
Nice looking car. I think you made the right choice. Your in the ARPCA region check and see who they use.

Thanks to everyone for the quick responses.
Scheduling the flush and boot replacement Today. Please have a great and safe fourth. With love Jinx |

A lot of groups require the broomstick test -- that is sitting in the car with your helmet on, can you run a broomstick over your roll bar to your windshield and not touch your helmet. In the unlikely event of a roll over -- you certainly don't want your helmet acting like a roll bar. Find the Chief Driving Instructor for your group that you are running with and ask what their rules are if they are not clearly stated somewhere. You have plenty of tire -- in fact too much :-) More importantly -- how old are they and are there any signs of cracking on the sidewalls, esp near the tread line. I like to have a fresh oil change and run thick oil -- (especially in August) Make sure your radiators are cleared of any debris. Check your power steering fluid level. Inspect your serpentine belt and clean replace your air filter. Have fun, Mike |
Seningen,
Thank you for the advice. |
ZXE headlights
I regard to our headlight upgrade: Bill and I wanted to see
Further on down the road and also onto the shoulder of the road. I live in the country. No houses or street lights or other cars for That matter. Just big corn fields where the deer love to Roam and jump out in front of you or over you or into the side Of your car. You can come across a horse or a cow now and then. but mostly deer or Sometimes a buck with a really big rack. Yes I do hunt) We use the running lights during the day. (The first notch on the lamp switch). Bye for now. Helping Bill clean the Boxster for the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix at Pitt Race this weekend. (Search PVGP under General discussions). Bill get back here and no you can't, not with my Martha Stewart Towels. I wondered where they were going. Have to watch him Like a hawk. Ok where is my toothbrush? http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1404911797.jpg Would not want to hit this guy. He's taller than the Boxster. |
