2001 Boxster S wiring

Need help with a wiring question. Firstly, is the wiring on a 2001 S the same as a 1998 base model?. The reason being, is I have two cars and wanted to use the base model as an example to see where everything fits. The S wiring harness coming out of the drivers side dashboard has been cut and I don't know what attaches to it. Any solutions or pictures would be a great help. I'm assuming the missing half goes to the rear of the car / computer?

No, they are different for a couple reasons; the 2001 car is an egas model, so it has circuits the 98 does not have. The 2001 car will also have a CAN bus communications network in it, which the 98 car did not. Secondly, Porsche has had a bad tendency to wire a given car for the options in it, so unless the cars have matching option lists, the harness is going to be different in that respect as well.

Thanks JFP, that's useful info. Just to complicate matters, the car was made up of "two half's" the front is a base model and rear a 2001 S. The dashboard is from the base model. Should I try and get a complete "S" wiring harness ?

Yes, you will need to convert all systems to Can bus using the S's parts and wiring. (climate control, instrument panel, ABS (if you want cruise), alarm computer, stalks, DME, etc.)

You are in for a heap of "fun".
