OIL LEAK :mad:
 

I changed my springs yesterday and I found an oil leak under the engine where the gearbox mounts to the block. How worried shall I be :( .
I know about the IMS but how long would you say I roughly have.
Also Ive been looking at replacing it with the clutch and I know there is a dual mass flywheel and single, how do I find out without doing the obvious. (taking it apart) I have. :confused:

The IMS bearing can fail without warning, especially if you have the later single row bearing. You should be concerned if this is a single row bearing. Is there oil on the floor in the morning?

Forgot to ask what year and model Boxster you have.

The quandry that this symptom presents is trying to decide if its an IMS leak or a RMS leak. An IMS leak is worrisome while an RMS leak generally isn't serious.

First, be SURE that the leak is coming from between the transmission and the engine. My car had a similar leak and even the dealer said that it was either IMS or RMS but the leak disappeared when I replaced the spark plug tubes.

Otherwise, the only way to know what is leaking is to remove the transmission.
