Curse you Bambi
I'm not sure what happened to the deer but the Boxster got the worse end of it. Since the Porsche dealer does not have a body shop, is there anything special I should ask the local panel beater to look for other than the usual radiators, fuel tank, lines and hoses? It is going to be down at least a month.

I don't think you have to worry about the fuel tank it is pretty well protected as are the lines, looks like you got away lucky, I have seen a lot worse.

From the look of things, I'd bet Bambi wasn't long for the world.
This may be obvious. If the condensers or A/C lines were breached, ask the A/C shop to evacuate the system prior to filling it with refrigerant to get as much moisture out as possible. You might consider replacing the A/C drier too as extra insurance.

I've been in that situation with another vehicle back in the day. It really does suck.
Consider yourself fortunate. As low as these cars are, Bambi could have ended up in your lap.

there's always an upshot. now you get to order those litronics you always wanted!!!  or go w/ the 996.2 updated front end since you need new fenders, hood, bumper and headlights!!! it's a glass half full/empty perspective. all cosmetic damage is like getting a new roof from insurance rather than paying out of pocket. good luck and let us know how it turns out.

This was just addressed in one of last week's issues of the USA Today. The month of November has the highest strike rate for deer, followed closely by December.
Hitting a deer is always one of my biggest fears on my weekend sprints through southwestern Wisconsin. Followed closely by Amish, farm equipment, and farm animals.

i'd bet you didn't even touch the radiators or condensers. and you got lucky it didn't hit the windshield or top. looks like just sheet metal.

I'd say sorry, but you wern't hurt and now you have the opportunity to upgrade mostly on the Insurance companies dime.
Don't let this opportunity pass you by, bring on the Fiberglass and carbon
As far as resale value, once you register an accident....its depreciated regardless of restoration, so just enjoy the upgrade process and make it your own.

So sorry to see your car in that condition. I'm really glad you weren't injured. I TRIED to get rid of as many Bambi's in Missouri as I could a few weeks ago (with a .270 and some good hollow point ammo) but they were all in hiding and not showing themselves. The car can be fixed and, all things considered, it's not nearly as bad as it could have been. Again, I 'm glad you came out ok. As others said, now's the time to upgrade and make it better than before!

I missed the call from the body shop Friday and worried all weekend tthinking State Farm totaled it out but surprise.....they approved the $7000 in repairs. Of course the parts won't be in for 10 -15 days

It really depends on the company and vehicle. My friend had 10-12K of work done on his 944 that got hit. It might have only been worth 3-4K at the time.
It is a Porsche after all. You can always cite the difficulty in replacing it with an identical model/color/options package.

I would argue with the insurance company and have it totalled. The car will never be the same after the repair and it will be less valuable because of the crash. Better to have them total it, negotiate the value of the car as high as you can with the insurance company and then just get another Box. Its a buyers market now.
NADA retail show about $12k. If you can convince your insurance company to pay that (or even 10k) you can buy 2000-2001 Boxsters all day for that amount.

You gotta have a shop around that has some experience with P-cars.
First I'd insist on the car getting a frame measurement either via a Porsche-supplied frame jig or laser measurement. Fails is the basis for the arguement to total the car. Only if it passed that then second I'd ask that the bumper be examined and all the support structures behind it between the bumper cover and the chassis. I'm assuming the body of the animal hit the hood and the legs the bra but get a look under the bra and make sure everything is fine behind the bumper cover for the next time there is something in front of you.
And after the body is cosmetically OK, then it needs to go to a P-car shop for inspection of the suspension bits. My second encounter was a rear ender with no visible damage but the P-car specialist gave it to the dealer for a safety inspection after $3k+ in bumper cover and behind the bumper repairs.
I've seen worse and they stopped counting on mine in the mid-20k range.

Look at the damage and where it is, I'd bet at any table in Vegas the frame is fine. I am surprised they didn't total it though based on mileage and age alone.
