Thoughts on going carless with a stock muffler?

I have a 98 car with the stock 2.5l and it is extremely quiet.

I would like to do some sort of exhaust but I do plan to do some longer trips and I don't want it to be annoying on the highway under normal conditions.

So, I had the thought of doing headders and catbypass pipes with a stock muffler.

Has anyone ever done this and what are your thoughts on doing this?

Well, I have stock headers and secondary bypass pipes with a stock muffler. NO drone at all but nice sound under full throttle.
