Radio won't go on after battery disconnect

Newbie here, love this forum!

99 Boxster

I was doing some work on the door panels and did not want the air bag light to code up so I disconnected the battery. As it turned out, the airbag is in the door and not the door panel.

Reconnect the battery and...

nothing. no display. I push the power button and nothing. I push the eject and the cd comes out. I insert a cd and it goes in.

Although crappy sound the radio worked and the display worked prior to battery disconnection.

I cannot put in a code as I see no display.

little help?

Thanks

Allen

Sorry if this is in the wrong section.

Correct, Sandro, but he's saying that he's not even seeing the display on the radio asking to enter a code, which seems very odd.

You could still try punching in your code even though you can't see the display, and see what happens though, healthservices.

The faceplates on these things are quite buggy. Try removing it and cleaning the contacts on the radio & faceplate using a Q-tip & alcohol or a pencil eraser.

Also, there are two fuses to check... one in main fuse panel (diagram on inside of panel door), second on back side of radio (requires pulling it using special Becker tools ~ $3 - see radio owner's manual)

Good luck

Looks like I will have to pull the radio to see if the fuse in there is bad. Going to have to order the tool in the meantime...

Well I borrowed a tool and removed the radio, looks like the fuse behind the radio was burnt out.

It also looks like I have some rewiring to do.

Thanks for the guidance everyone!

Ouch. Good thing you have those tissues handy. Do you have the bentley manual for all the wire color codes? PM me if needed and I can scan you a copy. Not the spaghetti that was on your mind tonight, u am sure, but at least you'll get it sorted out correctly.

Good luck

If I had to pull the whole thing out for this, I would just have CarToys, or someone, replace the whole thing with a new radio/cd/nav.
