A fix for a cross threaded o2 sensor?

I have a 97 986. One o2 sensor was very difficult to remove as it was cross threaded. Can the CAT be repaired where the o2 sensor screws in or do I need to replace the CAT?

Will a CAT from an 01 2.7L work as I have one on hand?

The thread for an O2 sensor is the same as for a spark plug. A helicoil should be easy to come by for a proper fix.

Try rnning a tap through the threads. Be very careful that is starts straight. You can make a tap by taking an old sensor and cutting 3 or 4 slots with a dremel tool perpendicular to the threads.
