Screech when the car is very cold

When I start my car, only when cold (as in, it is cold outside and the car is also cold), I get a loud screeching noise. It sounds like a fan belt, but I'm not 100% sure. It doesn't happen when the car is warm, or it not started in a cold morning.

Could it be anything other than the belt? I'm going to check what the condition of the belt is tonight.

Also check power steering fluid level. Mine was making screeching noise on cold starts when I turned the steering wheel. It was low on fluid.

If it is a weird 1 second screech, it is probably the starter.

If it is a longer screech, I think it is a belt. It can be too loose or too tight. See if spraying WD-40 on the belts help as a temporary fix.

Good luck.

Take off the serp belt and start when cold. If the screech is gone, then its something the belt is driving. check all pullies, esp water pump, for play.

If the shreek is still there, thenpossibly starter as mentioned above, or something in the motor.

I heard it again this morning. It seems to be after you start the car, not when it initially turns over. I will take the belt off when I have time, maybe tomorrow morning, and check it again.

Didn't realise you could do that.
