Hi there - new to this forum. I have an '03 Boxster S with the 3.8L 997 S motor in it. Roock did the conversion a few years back. It was pricey and a real pain to get all the electronics sorted out but it turned out very nice in the end.

If you have a 2000 it's a 2.7 or 3.2. If you get an e-gas 996 3.4 motor it will go semi easily. The DME is the same and you'll just need to flash the 996 3.4 program to it (you will need access to a PST2 to do this). Your Boxster harness will plug right onto the 3.4. That solves the electronics side.

Now, to get the motor into the car physically, you will need to lower the engine a bit to clear the manifold under the engine cover. Most people use spacers at the front engine mount, and 964 mounts for the tranny.

You'll need to carry over some pieces from your Boxster motor (oil fill tube, dipstick tube, a couple coolant housings, and hoses) but it's not too bad.

The engine will bolt up just fine to your transaxle, but you'll likely want a stronger clutch.

Good luck!

Here is a link to a tech article that covers many of the issues with the conversion you are interested in.

I've been led to believe that the early 3.4 M96 is even more problematic than the 2.5, 2.7 or 3.2. Does anyone have any info that supports or refutes that?
