New Boxster S owner

Hi guys,

well I am the proud new owner of a 22,000 mile 2001 Boxster S with lots of nice options.

One of the options is the PCM system with navigation. Given the age of the car can anyone tell me how good the navigations system is compared to a "modern" equivelent?

Thanks

David

Navigation is a rare option in the 986. How much did that option cost?

Talking

I do know that the service tech at my dealership thinks the Porsche NAV is substandard. Since I don't use NAV myself, I did not press him as to why he feels this way.

I have not seen any NAV in any of my Boxes or 911s and have to assume it is a rare option indeed.

So, you have a rare car. Congrats!!!

Let us know what you think of the NAV as you begin to use it.

PCM (option #662 on your code sheet under front hood) was $3,450 at the time. It says; "Order disks from Navigation Technologies (Nav Tech) 888 628 6277 (2001 phone no.) on the sheet I have.

Juicy one: Cassette radio, GPS nav. and OBC w/climate.

I don't have a clue on how well they work but, Enjoy.

....and post a pic.

Nav

Thanks for the info. I will post piictures when I pic it up next week. Interstingly there is an outstanding recall on the PCM which says it needs a software update. The Porsche dealer will fix whatever that is before I pick it up.

I already have a TomTom Go GPS which is great, but the PCM looks nice in the car.

I got the manual, it also has full leather, heated adaptive sport seats, traction control and a hardtop and some other options.

I think I got a great deal! It was from a Porsche Dealer who were asking $30k and I ended up paying $29k plus it's a Porsche Certified car with a new 2 year Porsche Warranty on it.

According to Kelly's the retail on this should be just under $37k!

Pcm

I have a 2000 ML 430 with a built-in Nav system that takes 10 CDs to cover the US and Canada. Every couple of years I need to buy a new set of updated CD's 9or one if you are stable e.g. California and Nevada are on one CD. The North East CDs are a mess due to the way they carved out the States). I am very satisfied with the 2000 vintage Nav system. However, in fast growing Las Vegas, the 2004 edition was already out of date by the time I got it. That's a Vegas issue not a Nav system issue.

BTW, you got a wonderful deal on your 2001 S. I bought my 2001 S Racing Yellow early this year, before the glut, with all conceivable options except the NAV (since the previous owner opted for the Digital Radio upgrade. Once you have that, no room for Nav or cup holders). At 19 K miles, I paid 33.4K for it. You did very good indeed!
