A wicked quick boxster
Now if money were no object, what kind of Porsche motor and tranny could I shove into my 97 box and get the fastest boxster known to man?
Share your thoughts and the dollar amount.
BTW, I've sunk $38k into my car and will probably never sell it. So I'm going in a LOT deeper with this idea!!!

Does this need to be a question?
Whatever Jake is selling as his biggest hp engine, I would recommend that to toss into the car. Obviously, he can build you an engine, and can price it to whatever level of crazy fast you want.

The second gen 997 Turbo DI engine can make over 800bhp. If money's no object and you're looking for a car that you can't control and would most likely be no fun to drive around on the streets, that's your engine.

I think the new GT3 engine would be the ticket... it would result in many many big grins I think...

Randall, you might want to talk to this guy:

I learned a few years back that "Big Power" is somewhat of a let down. Very few places you can use it and when you do, you're going stupid fast and the consequences of screwing up rise exponentially. JMO.

Fastest where?..... autocross, track, drag strip?
The video clip showed a subaru powered light weight tube frame (I think - what 1200 lbs.) that looked mighty quick.
Shear power? - turbo
combo handle/power.... not sure at what point the Boxster dynamics can no longer handle increased power - I've heard around 350 hp... beyond that you need a way to 'tame' it. Your car doesn't have all the electronic magic to start the taming process.
start by stripping the car. get it down to 2400-2500 lbs and see how you like that. should be a great first step.

I'm sure Raby could build you a 3.6L or 3.8L turbo with about 500 hp if you so desired. Of course the price tag would probably be about the same as the sticker price of your car.

Spend the money making it wicked quick on the track. Suspension tuning, brakes, reduce the unsprung weight, and the overall weight to improve the HP to weight ratio, And sure after that swap in a bigger engine if you have to.

I agree with Boxster44... first lose weight. We Americans are all overweight anyways. If your not worried about safety, start cutting out extra metal and start replacing panels with Carbon Fiber.
Look at the Lotus Elise, only 189 HP, but only weights 1984 lbs. Its running with a Toyota engine.

I like both luxury and speed. Stripping the car down to nothing to make it faster is a cheap way of doing it but I would rather save up and add a lot more HP and torque to the car I have now and add a leather dash, body kit, repaint it properly, put a glass window top on it, and have a tricked out super-fast boxster.
A Raby 3.6 or 3.8 might just be what I'm after.
I do love the idea of turbocharging it though. I wonder if he's ever taken his largest motor and added forced induction.
I'd ask him directly but his mailbox is FULL. I bet I'm not the only one asking for this and dreaming on Christmas day!
Merry Christmas folks!

My idea for the ultimate boxster would be to put GT3 Cup suspension under it and the a Cup motor and trans. I don't think this would be the "fastest" car in the world but would be a hoot to drive and a monster on the track. I have also thought about doing this to a cayman but havent found the right car to tear up to do it.

Pretty much.. 300 is nothing for us these days- but the internals cost the same for 600 HP :-)
2010 is going to take the M96 to a complete new level..

That's pretty cool news Jake! I want a 2nd P-car as a daily driver but then in the back of my mind lingers a voice saying , "save your money and buy a Raby engine". Of course the 2.5 has a new LN IMS in it so I suspect it will go for a long time.
That's pretty much what I would recommend to you Randall.

Jake, your mailbox is full and I can't ask you this privately, so PM me if you don't want to post pricing here.
I'm not going to call you and waste your time because I have to save up for it and it will be a couple of years...
But what dollar ballpark are you talking about when you throw out a 600hp motor and tranny installed in my 97 box?
I'm looking for a turnkey price here. I drop it off and when I pick it up, it's a car the magazines are dying to write articles about and it only cost me $_ _,_ _ _ <-- I figure it will be north of $20k so I put an extra space in there for you!
