electrical problems with my 99 boxster

it started off with the central locking trying to lock and unlock as i was driving along, then the central locking stopped working altogether, you can hear the door trying to lock so its not the motor and the boot will still open with the key remote. I did have a water leak but checked under the seat and the control unit wasnt in standing water, i took it out anyway and cleaned it made sure there was no moisture. I put the roof down yesterday, went for a drive, when i got home i tried to raise the roof and theres nothing. The handbrake light comes on. Could these 2 problems be connected? I spoke to a porsche specialist about the locking problem and they said it would be the door lock that was the problem, i was planning on taking the car to them but now my dilema is that i can only drive my car to them on a nice day and they are about 80miles away.
