'97 2.5 >> '01 3.2, Have two complete cars

Ok so moving forward from my last post auto to manual conversion. How about swapping complete drivetrain and electrical from one car to another. Going to be using the '97 as a shell for the transplant and the '01 shell as the donor. I also plan on swapping interior etc. I think having the complete Auto to Manual conversion here as well may work as well as the electric throttle and newer DME.

Hopefully I get good feedback or Im really pushing it..

Anything can be done. It just depends on how you want to spend your time and your money. There are so many Boxsters available that are already set up exactly the way you want, priced right and just looking for a buyer. Just pick one out and go driving. You have to decide if you are looking for a car or a project.

Of all the conversions possible, changing from 5spd to Tip or vice versa are the most time consuming and expensive on a Boxster. I can think of a lot of more productive ways I could spend 100 hours of my time.

Just one mans opinion. Others may differ.

Sounds like a good plan, but.... many insurance companies include fine print that says "If you increase the horsepower or displacement of the car and don't tell us about it your coverage is voided." They consider it fraud and get real cranky regarding covering claims. In that case you would be paying premiums for nothing. Read the mouse type first.

At any rate, turning wrenches all winter beats watching Oprah reruns any day. Enjoy!

I think the 01 3.2 S uses e-gas and the 97 2.5 does not. This would require a lot of extra stuff and work.

Most guys just bolt in a 3.4 non e-gas motor in our model year cars and call it a day.

That's certainly what I'd like to do... of course, it would be a Raby bored out 3.4 -> 3.6 rebuild if I were dreaming of motor swapping!

Couple things here. First off, why? After that, here are some things to keep in mind, should you choose to tackle this:

2.5 runs 5.2 DME with a cable throttle

3.2 runs 7.2 DME, with E-Gas.

To make the 3.2 play in the 2.5 car, you're going to have to re-wire and re-pin parts of the harness, add the E-Gas throttle to the pedal box, and make the other physical changed needed.

Perhaps you have your reasoning, but I don't see why this would be a project worth under taking. If anything, to put the 3.2 in the 2.5 car, I would be inclined to just get a 3.4 cable throttle body, and flash the 5.2 DME as a 3.4.

I just did the 3.4 swap myself with some help from forum members input. It was not a hard thing to do. Y waste your time on the 3.2? All that work for something that could be replaced with a larger motor with less work.
