that's what mine does ( auto downshift / engine braking ), however no grinding noises when backing up ( except the passenger mirror noise as it lowers. )

i have noticed that in the 2500 miles i've put on the car since i bought it used, the tiptronic seems to be staying out of "grandma" mode and into the more sportier mode more often.

when i first got it, it seemed to always be in 5th gear by the time it was at 30mph.

now it seems to still be in 1st or 2nd ( thankgod ). it waits longer to shift up and quicker to shift down, unless it's already in 5th then it takes its sweet time, unless i punch it. and it'll jump down to 3rd or 4th.

That's because it has adaptive software that selects a group of shift points which closely matches your driving style.

If you ever run down the battery, or disconnect it, the tip controller will lose the selected group and the tranny will revert back to it's default mode until after a couple days driving, during which it will readapt to your style.
