Pictures DE July 4th at Pocono in the rain

I had the best time at the Metro NY PCA DE at Pocono Raceway inspite of the rain. I am hooked on DE now. It rained my first 3 runs. On my 4th and last run of the day at 4:30 PM it had stopped raining for a while and the track was somewhat dry and I had my best run of the day. We had two 911's spin. One of them did two 360's barely missing the wall in front of the Pit area on the front straight just as I had made my hard right turn into the north track infield esses course. There was a big puddle of water on that inside corner that forced me to go wider at the apex of that corner than needed to line-up for the next turn. I have a renewed love and respect for my Boxster S. It handled great in the rain even on my Perelli Pzero Ultra High performance summer tires.

Looks like fun. Rain on your first track day is a good thing. It's like a giant skidpad. You really get to feel your limits and throttle inputs at much lower speeds.

And yes, track days in a Boxster are like heroin.

Most fun I've had in I can't remember how long. Skid pad is right! We had two 911's spin on the wet track. I flew down the front straight (3,740 feet) at 115 mph but had to start braking about 250 feet before the hard right turn into the North track infield twisties. A 911 that was following me did two 360's in front of the Pit area and almost hit the wall. I have a new & improved love and respect for the Boxster after my day in the rain at Pocono. And I am in awe of the instructors who allow a person they just met to drive them around a track at high speed in the rain with other cars on the track at the same time. Amazing.

Awesome, I did a DE at Pocono with PDA in one of my BMWs before. It was great... a little scary with some of the idiots out there but all in all great. I am not real interested in tracking my daily driver these days though. I know what it can do if need be.

Not to Hijack the thread, but I will

Hey Mr. 200SoCalBoxsterS I noticed in your pics the spoiler is not deployed. I thought the rear end is unstable at high speeds without it. How come running without it did not cause you trouble? How did you keep it from deploying, pull a fuse?

Anybody out there know if Mid-Ohio does something similar?

I thought the same thing at first from looking at some of the pictures. On these you can't see the spoiler deployed. I have others where when I zoom in you can see it. It actually sit's lower down than you think. Just below the edge of the rear trunk lid. It a lot easier to see from the rear.

Does the black masking tape come off as easily as the blue painter's tape I see on other cars at your DE?

(I like the idea of going with black tape when I head to the track because my car is all black)

I used black racers tape. It came off very easy when I was done. Almost too easy. And left no sticky residue. I also used red tape on my front bumper and about 8 or 12 inches up the leading edge of my hood. Taped it to just above the Prosche crest. Also came off very.
