Blue smoke on start up

We have a 2001 Boxster and drive it only a few times a month. After sitting for a week or so, upon ignition the exhaust releases blue oil related smoke for about one second. It clears up and is fine from then on.

Once out of the garage the car runs beautifully.

Is this common or an indication of a problem?

A small puff of smoke on startup is nothing to worry about, and fairly common. But if it is from an oil drip, it might be worth getting it looked at just incase.

Smile Blue smoke

Thanks for the reply Rick. There is no oil leak or oil usage. It's comforting to know that the puff is a common thing. The care seems to be perfect other than that puff of smoke.

See thread on air oil seperator. May be contributing to your problem.

not a problem

When I'm on vacation for more than 2 weeks without starting the car (always being charged, of course!) I did notice a blue plume of smoke that comes from the car. However, I have found this to be normal because in the daily driving that I would do, the situation does not repeat itself. Plus, as I took the car to the dealership for scheduled maintenance (another thread coming up) I also found that everything is normal, so don't worry
