996 Front End on Boxster?

I was checking out cardomain.com the other day and saw that some people have been putting what looks to be like 996 front bumpers and headlights on their 986s. I was planning to buy some new headlights for my 986 soon, but if I can find the parts for decent prices, I'd love to put that front end on my car.

Has anyone ever done this or known someone who has? What front ends will fit the Boxster? 996s? Specific years?

Thanks!
Chris

You might want to contact Jeph on this board. He's done the conversion.

IIRC, in 2002, Porsche redesigned the headlights (which impacted the bumper and perhaps fenders) on the 996. So. If you have a '97-2001 Boxster, changing over to a pre 2002 996 bumper should, literally, be a snap. The euro 996 GT3 bumper (again, pre 2002) also fits on an "early" Boxster.

Yeah, I did some thread-searching and it looks like I may have some options availible to me. Those xenon headlamps, although nice, are a little out of my price range at the moment, so I think I'll just try to pick up some halogens.

Any of the pre-02 996 bumpers fit with no modifications. If you want the 02-newer 996 front end, it requires changing headlights, fenders, bumper, and some supporting bits. I would only consider this if your car got backed into by a garbage truck and you needed the whole front end and someone else was paying for it.

The "fried egg" Litronics that are bolt on are a significant upgrade- both in terms of lighting and in terms of modernizing the front of the car.
