Escort Z3 Laser Shifter installation

Hi All,
i am about to embark on a new project for my porsche boxster : installing an Escort Z3 Laser Shifter. here is some more info on the product : http://www.passportsr1.com/zr3.htm
Looks like the installation should take several hours. Here are some pics i found on the web from someone who installed this laser jammer in his boxster :
see attachments.
Any tips before i start are more then welcome !
Kindest regards,

SR7 Install Cliff Notes

Hey BartMan,

I did the same install on my 01 and it took me two months of planning before I had the balls to cut in. If you need help, let me know.

The radar antenna is in the passenger grill attached with the provided "L" bracket to the black rubber liner (back) of the intake. The front laser antennas are 3M taped behind the each grill. I Ran the wiring down the passenger headlight barrel (pull the headlight and feed a 6 foot piece of weed eater line down from under the windshield cowling to use as a safe fish tape.) Find a rubber plug in the firewall and puncture and pass wires through. I bundled everything in the console behind the bow tie and mounted the display in the bow tie like your picture.

For the rear laser antenna, run the wire into the bumperette, there you will find a hole that lead into the trunk (I think there is another rubber gromit to pierce) and run back along the drivers side, behind the trim in the top well. From there I went behind the drives seat and down the center to the bow tie.

Wire it up and you are good to go. There is a 12v wire for the phone in the harness under the bow tie, I just can not remember if it is switched or hot.

You will want to order the external speaker from Escort, otherwise you will not hear the warnings with the top down. I placed mine right under the drivers seat upper seatbelt mount.

You will love the warning you get with this and the security of being able to leave your top down without fear of someone taking you radar detector.

Good Luck

Great tips !

Thanks ! that is great info ! - how long did it take for the entire project?
I'll include the schematic with a top view of the car showing where the wires run.
Looks like you taped the 2 front ones. How solid is this? did you use a special type of 3M tape ?
Also, i was thinking of mounting the rear laser on the front license plate. Not only to save some installation time, but also after doing research i realized that highway patrol/police will "always" target the front of your car : main target being your front license plate, second front-headlights - so with the 2 main front jammers combined with a jammer mounted on the license plate itself i should be in good shape. I also made sure that IR jammers are legal in the state of Ohio, which they are. Laser Jammers and Radar Jammers are illegal in the states of Nebraska, Minnesota, Utah, California, Oklahoma, Virginia, Colorado, Illinois and Washington DC.

Thanks again for your tips. I am also starting this weekend with the nite shades project - tinting my rear lights. i'll document and post on this forum later.
Ciao
Bart

I wouldn't mount the rear sensor to the front license plate. It picks up radar from behind you. I have the Escort SRX that also has the laser shifter. I mounted mine just like the pics on their website. I bought a GT3 front bumper, so I mounted the radar antenna in the center radiator opening. The rest I did pretty much as mwh98. (my sig pic has the original bumper. I still need to get some paint work done before I update my sig pic)
