As far as people's MAF's getting screwy, 99.9% of the time it's because they're using a K&N style filter (reusable by cleaning and oiling) and over-oiling the filter when they recharge it. This causes the excess oil to get sucked down the intake and foul up the MAF. If you just lightly oil the filter (it doesn't need much at all to work properly), then you shouldn't run into any problems.

I will agree that this is most likely the case. Had the same issue with my s4 which ceased once i switched to a dry filter.
