Airbag light came on

Airbag light came on this weekend. I'm thinking the battery is going, it has not been starting very enthusiastically as of late.

From what I gather, even if that is my problem, I will need to bring it by my mechanic to reset the airbag light correct?

What else (besides the obvious, e.g. an airbag system malfunction) would the airbag light indicate?

Generally speaking the airbag light on 986's comes on due to old tin connectors in the seatbelt harness. The dealer will charge a fortune to replace these. My dealer quoted me $750.00. I learned from a thread on this site that spraying electrical contact cleaner in the buckles and then drying with compressed air may solve your problem. It did for me. You still will have to get the light reset however. Good luck.

Do try the contact cleaner and compressed air thing, then swing by a dealership and have the code cleared. Or, find a forum member nearby who has the durmametric software and cable and they can do it for you. Auto Zone's code readers don't have the ability to turn off the airbag light, and to answer your next potential question .... no ... you cannot disconnect the battery overnight and clear this code out.

If it remains on or comes back on, buy two new seat belt receptacles from Sunset like I did (MUCH cheaper than your local stealership) and install them yourself... it will take 15 minutes per seat and it's only 4 bolts to get the seat out of the car to do it.

Easy-Peezy fix.

Thank you. I searched Rennlist but neglected to search Renntech . I'll run some contact cleaner through the latches this evening and swing by my mechanic later in the week to read/clear the code.
