Question HID conversion kit questions

My first post. I have been looking at the forum for a while and love all the cars. I have an '01 2.7 Red, and absolutely love the car. I'm looking at several HID plug-n-play conversion kits. I've decided to go with 6000k.

My questions involve installation. Which specific kits have others bought? Would I need to drill the back of the headlight backlid/cover? Does the ballast fit in the headlamp casing or does it need to be placed in the front trunk? Here are some of the kits I'm looking at:

1) http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/H7-6000K-AUTO-HID-CONVERSION-KIT-Super-Slim-Ballast_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ36476QQihZ003QQ itemZ130173677602QQtcZphoto

2) http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Porsche-Boxster-996-Xenon-HID-LITRONIC-Conversion_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ36476QQihZ00 7QQitemZ170171338417QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW

The second option is quite a bit more expensive ($250 vs $105). Is it worth the difference to get 2 pre-drilled headlight backlids?

Thanks,
Saiful

Hey I chime in here since I've done a lot of homework and will do my own write-up on this shortly.

It's not worth the Vertex Auto price. If you submit an offer they will take $200.

Now as for the cheaper HID kit I think(don't know for sure) that CQ Lights sell the same kit or at least ballast.

Honestly, the 250 dollar one is the exact same chinese kit that sells for 80 on ebay in other auctions. The ballast is the same, the bulbs are the same, and the wiring is the same. Look at pictures and you will see they sell for even more than that from other vendors.

I just installed one of these http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/HID-XENON-CONVERSION-KIT-H1-H4-H7-H11-9005-9006-9007_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ36476QQihZ016QQite mZ260182172927QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW on my wife's lexus with great results. (notice it is the same kit as the 250 dollar one) and installed one in my old tundra 3 year ago, my brother has it now and they still work.

I will be buying another one soon for the new truck, and will buy the same kit from whoever is selling it the cheapest on the day of purchase. Since they are the same, they usually to manage to drop the prices 10 dollars ever few months as someone else battles for the low ball vending.

In my porsche, I opted for the 1500 litronics, the light output is the exact same as the 70 dollar lexus bulb. I will post a side by side pic soon.

See my writeup here http://www.986forum.com/forums/showthread.php?p=105970#post105970

The version I bought had no drilling. The HID lights fit right into the light assembly and the ballasts could fit in behind the lights.

Thanks for the quick responses! Would anyone have hesitations for this kit over other kits?

I never knew these aftermarket kits to require any kind of drilling.

I bought a brand called McCulloch a while back ago with intention of putting them in my old headlights. The ballast would not fit. I ended up selling (and installing) them to my sister in-law's sister. I put them in a Mazda 3. Turned out ok, and still work to this day I believe. That was just under 2 years ago.

The kits themselves don't. If you want you could install the ballast like the OEM litronic and drill a screw through the access panel and have it installed on the panel.

But with these slim small ballast I'm starting to wonder if you could just double side tape it to the inside of the panel.....hmmm
