The tale of my Twin - Part I

Sunday afternoon, cloudy/rainy day (very uncommon for Curacao).

Was planning to go for my routine sunday morning ride and take some pics but alas.
Well, lets get started.
Since last year I had been looking to update my 98 boxster (used to be my Dad's).
Beauty is important to me but I'm not one to settle for "all show and no go". Especially after my dad bought a 2007 Boxster S!

Options range quite a bit but I didn't want to do just a small thing. You are then left with mostly supercharger kits and then one turbocharger kit that costs more than the car itself. I don't recall the name of it but its price was burnt into my memory forever, ... 15,000.-.... EUROs!!!!
Needles to say that was not an option.
I had looked at RUF for my body styling but as engine upgrades they simply put in a bigger one. Well, I wasn't too keen on changing the heart of my car.
Supercharging was one option that seemed most common but I knew that given the choices I would rather go for Turbo. I have friends who have supercharged cars and turbo charged ones but I always liked the fact that a turbo charged car is more subtle at low RPMs but grows its power as the RPMs go up.

Then I stumbled upon Turbowerx.
It seemed to be what I was looking for (though a little pricey).
Started corresponding with them. My other hesitancy was that they seemed to be no other comments about this kit (as it was new).
After they introduced a special $1k I decided to go for it.

Not everything was sent out at once but since the first shipment contained all the important (expensive) parts I did not worry so much about the second part.

Once I got everything I familiarized my self with the instructions and expected to be done in 2 weekends.
Considering the 1st one was a long-weekend and I did finish installation indeed in 2, it slightly longer then I had expected.
On the 3rd I revised everything and started it etc.
Overall the most difficult /tricky part was removing the old injectors and installing the new ones. Can't say that I enjoyed this part of the installation. The rest was fairly simple and even enjoyable. After all your putting nice new shiny parts on it (Bling, bling!).

It did take a little bit of driving for the ECU to learn the changes (ex. injectors).
My MAF sensor was dirty. The way the engine was behaving with the dirty MAF made me quite worried about the whole project.
When Marc Reviel (turbowerx) ensured me I had a dirty MAF. I cleaned it a second time (this time I cleaned the right part of it).

What a relief. Now everything was ok. By the way, this guy (M.R.) helped me very good. He was continuingly asking me about the progress and even sending me new opdates on their Research and Developments.

One of the big tests for me took place last night. My older brother invited my to test my car while he drove my fathers other car (Lotus Elise).
He knows how the Boxster's original performance lagged behind the Lotus' so we where both impressed after the run. We could not tell this time we did not have a chance to race all out (yet) but honestly the Boxster is hauling arse right now!

Here are some pics. Enjoy.

Didn't you have to send your ECU to them to be reflashed?

Turbowerx only charged you $1k for the whole kit?

Thumbs up

Gerardo de Kort,

Did you mean that the kit was $1k off the regular price?

Thanks for the pics and write up. Please keep it coming

wow man, congrats... this is pretty sweet, I'm looking forward to hearing more. By the way, I love your car's stance... what is the size and offset of your rear wheels?

$1k was the price reduction from 7k. So to answer you question I paid 5,999.- on it (6k). My opinion... worth it.
Reflashing was also one concern of me. I wasn't too keen on this but in the end I did not have to have it done. Car is running fine. My contact person there is telling me that they are reflashing for more performance though (whilst retaining stock injectors).

I'm just enjoying and learning to drive mine again (given the upgrade).

My rear wheel spacers are 20 mm (RUF). I also have the 15mm. These are not sufficient for fitting Rufs 18" x 10" wheels. Plan to use the 15s and add 3mm to clear the rear struts. With the 20mm at the rear and 7mm at from the car becomes somewhat twitchy (especially in breaking).

Ruf lowering springs are quite nice though.

Do you get any CEL from bypassing the AOS? Why did you block it off?

Hi Carlos,

Don't exactly know what you mean by AOS but no, I don't have any CEL coming on.
As for heat generation, I did have this issue before already.
One of my sensors (left front radiator) is not working. Looks like it was shorted (burned). That and my other temp sensor in the engine bay (one that triggers the blower) has also given away.
By the way, any tips for me on how to go about replacing this?
We recently have a Porsche dealer on the island but haven't approached them yet.
Temperature does go pass the half way (especially when pushed) point but this was the case before already.
I did have a problem with what I believe was my thermostat. Believed it got stuck closed (not allowing for circulation) so I took it out and had to refill water/coolant and bleed the system.
The is a procedure for this.
By the way. For anyone who plans to do this project or any, I highly recommend buying the porsche boxster maintenance manual by bentley. This is the best money you'll spend!

Here's just a picture of the car.
My dad doesn't want to test his 07 boxster S against me anymore

Very aggressive look. Nice! The front intake vents on the bumper look like they could inhale a small child.

Thanks for the comments!
The front bumper is made by Ruf. Very similar material to the original bumper, though a little heavier.
Everybody who sees the car tell me now I need to do something to the rear end (bumper) but have not found anything really worth it yet.
There was a nice looking one (GT3 turbo style) on e-bay but after inquiring found it to be fiberglass and I fear the cracking of these...
