I've owned my Boxster for 5 years and am thinking of adding some bass into the car. Problem is, I don't know where to place them. I was thinking the passenger footwell but I don't want to sacrifice too much leg room. Anyone with experiences with this?

Search for this, my local shop did an amazing custom sub for me in the passenger footwell that barely limits footwell space and sounds fantastic. They are now selling the kid pre loaded with an 8" JL driver. PM me for details after you find my other post.

Hi Patrick, I got one of the 8" JL Audio subs you reported on in your posts. I have already installed a second JL Audio Slash amp to drive it, now all I need is my car back from the shop so I can install the subwoofer.

hey guys i know you all have the one on the passenger area, but has anyone tried something like a custom box for the front or year trunk with like a 12 or maybe 2 10" subs?

It's gotta be inside the cabin or you won't be getting good bass.
The engine will block out noise from the rear trunk and the front trunk would only work if you ported it into your cabin.
I have the Focal 13WS in the passenger footwell now with much success, all it requires is a proper installation.

There have been installs utilizing a larger sub in the front trunk, with a tuned port into the cabin through the RHD steering column hole. This works, but you wind up with an almost bandbass type sub, which IMO, is not terribly musical.

The rear trunk isnt an option at all, as you wouldnt hear a thing past the engine and firewall.

Here it is. The passenger seat isn't comfortable for anyone 5'11" or over so I'm opting for the Focal 8" Sub in a different enclosure now.

I would not want to be the passenger, in one of these modded subwoofer cars, in the event of an accident! Talk about potential for serious leg & foot injuries.

In our litigious USA, just think of the lawsuit a passenger could file against the driver.

For 5" Subs, the Focal were surprisingly powerful! I was only looking for SQ but they can also bump pretty hard. I also own a pair of Focal 5ws and the 13ws hits deeper, more defined bass. I only have them at medium-low settings and they still sound great with the top down; most importantly the subs are powerful enough if when someone is trying to show off their system and bumping their 2 12"s beside my car, I am still able to hear my music clearly.

The MDF enclosure is bolted on the footwell, and the subs + enclosure only weigh 8lbs, so there's no need to worry about injuries regarding the box.
