SOS!! help with DME start up steps

ok, i will start with this is my fault and i admit it. 1999 standard non s

The car was running FINE, until i started "adjusting" the headlights, and then forgot them "on", and then killed the battery!!

Since i have recharged the battery, the poor car is acting like it is possessed, it starts as it normally would for about 20 seconds and then starts missing, burping, popping, and then stalls at about the 30 second mark, there is an engine bay fan on. and no check engine light ???

I have read that they run rough for a bit until they "relearn" after a battery change, but i can't get this thing to run for more than 30 seconds, it is kinda hard to take it for a drive to "relearn"

is there a proper procedure for resetting the the computer after a battery removal/replacement?
