SOS!! help with DME start up steps
ok, i will start with this is my fault and i admit it. 1999 standard non s
The car was running FINE, until i started "adjusting" the headlights, and then forgot them "on", and then killed the battery!! Since i have recharged the battery, the poor car is acting like it is possessed, it starts as it normally would for about 20 seconds and then starts missing, burping, popping, and then stalls at about the 30 second mark, there is an engine bay fan on. and no check engine light ??? I have read that they run rough for a bit until they "relearn" after a battery change, but i can't get this thing to run for more than 30 seconds, it is kinda hard to take it for a drive to "relearn" is there a proper procedure for resetting the the computer after a battery removal/replacement? |
No reset procedure.
Try disconnecting the MAF, then starting. Does it behave differently? |
i was scared to try without a second opinion, what should happen if i do?
|
THANKS
i disconnected sensor, it started and ran, as soon as i plugged it back in it stalled. i am assuming i am ordering a new maf sensor, but can you give me a little heads up on what is going on in there? |
Disconnecting it forces the DME to a default fuel map.
It means either the MAF failed, is failing or got fouled up somehow. You can try cleaning the sensor. |
are they known to just randomly get bad?
I am going to replaceit with a new one, I am just wondering if the low battery voltage while trying to crank pushed it over the edge and killed it |

Don't throw money at the car trying to remedy errors. You'll go broke. |
