SoftTop Conversion

Hi All,

This topic may have been discussed a million times... If so... I do apologize. I recently spoke with another Boxster owner who told me that the early model Boxsters with the plastic rear windows can be modified to accept the glass windows & defroster.

Is this true? The gentleman told me there was a guy in Birmingham, AL (affliated with Porsche) who was doing the modifications with no problems. But I wanted to check here first before I went and did anything stupid...

Any feedback would be great!

As far as I know, it is possible, but highly expensive. I asked the question when I bought my Boxster. You can't just replace the top, the convertible frame has to be replaced.

If you find out how much the retrofit will cost, I'm sure people may be interested.

I was told whenI bought my 04, that the earlier Boxsters can be retrofitted to the new top.

The new top has a 4th bow just above the glass rear window.

Outside of the frame, headliner and the top I dont believe there is any other differences. I think the wiring for the rear glass is already there due to the hard top option.

Only been asked a 100 times. $6,500 for the frame with the 4th bow and $2,000 for the top with the glass window. Do not know anyone who has done it for the obviou$ reason.

I just bought a 1998 Boxster, and 1 out of 3 times the wire on the soft top does not settle into the guide and this binds preventing the soft top from closing completely. Any solutions?

Danny Boy,

The dealer should be able to make an adjustment on those top wires, assuming they haven't gotten stretched. Always check that they're in the track before flipping the top latch. (And never buy a clunker from a disreputable source.)
