Yet another ignition switch issue

I recently bought a 2002 Box S knowing it had electrical issues. Found the previous owner had not tightened the ignition switch screws, now it starts. But the instrument cluster and hvac is dead and has random battery drains. Bought a new switch and pulled the harness off the old one and plugged the new in. With key in the ignition, turned to position 1 with a screwdriver. Success, instrument cluster worked and spoiler finally retracted. Next morning I "popped" in the new switch and it works exactly like the old one.

The only thing I can think of is the center plastic pin. I assume I have a short. Anybody have any thoughts?

Thanks,
John
