Not my first Porsche, but definitely a fun one! My first Porsche was a 1966 911 motor stuffed into a 1964 VW Bug in mid-1968. I had blown the motor on the VW, and at the time, was a young sailor stationed at the Pentagon. My father advanced me the $$ for a replacement VW motor, but a friend's father said we could probably get one out of junk yard cheaper. As it turned out there was a '66 911 in the junk yard, everything forward of the front seats gone. The motor was untouched, so for less than what the dealer installed motor would have cost, I had a 911 5 speed squeezed in. There was some cutting, etc., necessary in order to fit the motor AND 5 speed tranny, but when all was said and done I had a VW bug that went really fast, although the speedo max'd out at 80! I went to Vietnam and left the VW/Porsche with my folks. My father let my youngest sister drive it, and not knowing or understanding what she had, wrecked it, running off the road in a curve at speed.
Fast forward a few years, wives, kids, career and until retirement it was family cars, station wagons, etc. Finally, wife and I are empty nesters, and I found at 2004 Cayenne Turbo. 1 owner, pristine condition. Yup, I drove it like I stole it and with 120k on the motor, and years out of warranty, the motor seized. Local Porsche dealer just shrugged, so I trailered it to a reputable out of state dealer who put a camera into and through the motor, and declared that is was "toast" but they couldn't find anything definitive other than internally is was "broken". Off to the junkyard with that one.
Spotted my latest, a 2002 Boxster S in an online bulletin board. It was located just north of Atlanta, and had just over 71k on it. Drove to Georgia, test drove it, wrote the dealer a check, and headed home. So far so good! Now...if it would quit raining so I can drop the top and get in the wind.....
