Thermostat replacement

Planning on doing a water pump and thermostat replacement this summer, having discovered to my utter surprise that it had been 9 years since I did it before!

Had a few questions. Planning on going with Porsche WP, but I wondered about the t-stat. They seem like pretty simple mechanisms—do people seem to have any problems with the less pricey ones? Actually, it looks like LN Engr has their low temp t-stat on sale, but it's just the insert.

Do folks tend to replace the housing each time or just go with what they have and simply replace the insert? And how about the $20 removal/installation tool? Is the process pretty difficult to do without that little item?

Go with the LN stat. You only need to replace the housing if it is cracked or leaking. You can replicate the removal tool out of some PVC pipe in about 5 min.with a hand file.

You echoed pretty much exactly what I was thinking. Thanks for the confirmation.
